The Privacy Era is Coming
During the last few months, I have come across more articles and participating in more stimulating conversations regarding the desire for more privacy. This is a refreshing turn from the oversharing we have seen during the last decade and a half. Since the birth of instagram, our society has changed to mass consumption and mass sharing- for better (no) - for worse (yes). The trend continued via podcasts, tell-alls, too many pictures and general TMI situations. Finally, we are starting to feel a much needed shift. More and more people are seeking discretion and privacy. Many are recognizing, that perhaps “less is more” with the amount of information they want to share about themselves. Less is a statement - CONFIDENCE.
For luxury fashion houses, this ignites an important change. I am curious to see how brands will navigate this societal trend that is emerging. The mass communication tactics used for the last 15 years may become a major problem. The “it bag”, “must have” and “top seller” feels like a language of the past if people prefer discretion and privacy. And the word “Followers”- this was never cool.
In my opinion this can become a rich period for creativity, identity, and true relationship building. Creatives will find new ways to connect with people and people will find a new way to connect to what they truly desire (privately).
